UNM Tuition Would Increase by 3.75%

Albuquerque Journal - University of New Mexico officials backed off a proposal to nearly double student fees for libraries, but stuck with their plan for higher athletic fees and a tuition increase of 3.75 percent for next year. The plan approved by the regents Friday would mean tuition will increase to $4,825 for undergraduates and $3,928 for graduate students. The fee increase would be $65. The 4-1 vote, with two members absent, is not final, but it indicates that regents are on board with President David Schmidly’s amended budget proposal. The final vote on the university’s $252 million budget will come at the end of next month.“I can’t say I’m 100 percent happy, but I don’t think anyone can be 100 percent happy,” regent Don Chalmers said of the proposed budget. Chalmers and regents Jamie Koch, Gene Gallegos and Brad Hosmer voted in favor of the budget proposal, student regent Jake Wellman dissented and regents Jack Fortner and Carolyn Abeita were absent. (Subscription Required) Read More News New Mexico

What was the problem? This year’s form for candidates to fill out to the Secretary of State’s Office were slightly different than previous years, including requiring candidates to specify the district they were running in, as well as other information.
