Despite all the growth in the area and the resulting increase in tax revenues the Dona Ana County Commission is considering a rate increase. "Hey, what's another 3/16ths of a percent?" is the refrain. When that refrain gets asked over and over again the total burden becomes outrageous.

Ridden by Roswell, New Mexico native Mike Smith, legendary racing mare Zenyatta dazzled the sporting world with yet another thrilling victory yesterday afternoon. For the third straight year she won the Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park. In doing so, she accomplished something neither the great Cigar or Triple Crown winner Citation was able to do. Zenyatta has now won 17 consecutive races. Next up for this great mare is the all-time North American record set by New Mexico-bred Pepper's Pride, who competed only against horses born in the Land of Enchantment, won 19 in a row. Tears flowed from many fans eyes who were in attendanceat Hollywood Park Yesterday. Greatness is the rarest of all characteristics and many fans knew what they had just witnessed was true greatness.
