Gov. Martinez marks Memorial Day at Santa Fe National Cemetery

Susana Martinez
Governor Susana Martinez issued the following statement paying tribute to the men and women of the United States military who gave their lives in the service of their country. Governor Martinez has issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sundown in honor of American troops who have died in the line of duty. On Monday, Governor Martinez will be attending Memorial Day Services at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

“Memorial Day is an opportunity for all New Mexicans to reflect on the bravery and dedication of our troops who died while serving their country,” said Governor Martinez. “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States military as well as their families for the immense sacrifices they make to answer the call of duty. Chuck and I are particularly humbled by those who gave all in order to protect the freedoms we cherish every day. I hope all New Mexicans will join me in a moment of reflection on Memorial Day as we pay tribute to those individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Memorial Day.......Never Forget

NewsNM note - We received the following message from Steve Pearce's office. It was the only communication on Memorial Day we could find from our national Congressional delegation on the topic.
“Today, we celebrate those who serve or have served—and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. I take this time to show my gratitude. Today and every day, I remember and pray for our fallen heroes, their families and those still in harm’s way around the world. Not only the soldiers, but also the families are the embodiment of courage and honor. Whether Memorial Day for you is about barbequing, picnicking, or spending time with family, I hope each of you take a moment to remember what this day is truly about.”
“On this day, I want to thank every member of our community that served our nation for their courage and commitment to protecting our freedom and ensuring our safety. America is free today because of the sacrifices made by the men and women in the Armed Forces. I will never forget their sacrifices. Today, please take the time to remember and honor those that defend our liberties.”
Amen Congressman Pearce. Amen.

Memorial Day in Progressive Land

Chris Hayes
Chris Hayes, of MSNBC's Sunday morning show "Up with Chris Hayes," says he's uncomfortable ascribing valorous terms to fallen military because it's "rhetorically proximate" to justifications for more war. (Maybe they should rename the show, "Up Yours Chrs Hayes")
In one way or another this is precisely the sort of commentary one has come to expect from MSNBC. Rather than go on and on about the actual mechanics of how the freedom of Chris Hayes' speech is protected, you can simply watch the video here and draw your own conclusions about what this spokesman for countless progressive Democrats has to say about men and women coming home in flag draped caskets.
