The Aggies had six players in double figures on Monday night as they cruised to a 95-62 victory over Western New Mexico in the home opener. The Aggies received their championship rings and raised their WAC and NCAA banners prior to the game and then made quick work of the visiting Mustangs.
The Aggies got 21 points from Troy Gillenwater and 17 points and six rebounds from freshman Christian Kabongo in the rout. The Aggies led by 17 points in the first half and outscored the Mustangs by 16 in the second half en route to the 33 point victory.
The Aggies shot 52.4 percent from the field while holding Western New Mexico to 32.8 percent. The Agies out-rebounded the Mustangs 53-30. Among the six players in double-figures for the Aggies was Troy Gillenwater with a game-high 21, Christian Kabongo with a career-high 17 including 5-of-5 from the free throw line, Hamidu Rahman finished with 11 and Tyrone Watson, Hernst Laroche and Gordo Castillo each added 10. Bandja Sy and Tshiilidzi Nephawe each added eight points.
Chad Carter scored 14 points for WNMU hitting 6-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. TJ Riley added 11 points but was just 3-of-16 from the field.
