Chavez: We're the Problem

Linda Chavez
Townhall - The American middle class has become increasingly dependent on government programs, from guaranteed student loans for the young to income and medical support for the elderly. But few people are willing to pay for the benefits they receive. According to a study by the Brookings Institution, the average male Social Security recipient receives an average 21 percent more in benefits than he (and his employers) paid into the system in taxes. Medicare recipients receive an even higher ratio of benefit to taxes paid in. The National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare estimated that by 2016, the average male would receive about 160 percent in benefits from what he and his employer paid in taxes, and the average female an even higher percentage. And an estimated 25 percent of Medicare expenditures go for care in the last year of life, a figure that has remained steady over the last several decades. Read full column here: News New Mexico

Instead of complaining propose a fix. AND are these figures adjusted for a proper rate of interest (and inflation) on the funds the taxpayer paid into SS and medicare. I suspect not.

My proposition: Give everyone who participated in SS and medicare back the funds (with a "just" interest) improperly and probably unconstitutionally taken from them. Tell them here's what you have to care for yourself. It was your responsibility all along and this is what you have to do it with.

Get rid of medicare, medicaid, and all these other social programs that government has no business being involved in. The government has nothing to give to others so government steal from the rich to give to the so-called poor. There is no difference between slavery imposed by one individual on another and slavery imposed on those who work for the benefit of those who don't. Wrong is wrong. AND teach young people that it becomes THEIR responsibility to care for their parents just as their parents cared for them.

Government has no legitimate place involving itself so deeply in the lives of individuals.
