This morning we learned that unemployment is once again over 9.2%. In December the president extended the Bush tax cuts. He justified it by stating that it would be irresponsible to raise taxes on the American people during such difficult economic times. With exception to the left-wing loons, almost everyone agreed with the president. Since then the economy has worsened and now the only thing the president can think of to improve the economy is raise taxes on corporate jet owners? That's it? Later this afternoon he will publicly respond to the latest unemployment numbers. I suspect his response will be a mixed bag of blame shifting and campaign damage control. He'll attempt to blame Bush and will demonize rich people (whoever they are). Instead of implementing economic policies that would make it easier for businesses to prosper and hire, the man will instead resort to blaming others for making it worse and rejecting ownership of his own failed economic policies. He'll also try to talk about bumps in the road to recovery. Unfortunately, American families will continue to suffer the bumps while Obama and his advisers brainstorm excuses for his failures to create a business friendly environment that would cause his "enemies", all businesses, to create jobs.
Obama isn't the first president to inherit a bad economy. Bush also inherited a weak economy that was in recession. However, instead of carping about his predecessor, Bush implemented common sense economic policies that brought unemployment down to nearly 4%, facilitated a stock market recovery and reduced the cost of energy. Bush at least acted like a leader. Obama is not a leader. Instead of taking responsibility for his failure, this president consults his campaign advisers for plausible scapegoats. Listen carefully this afternoon when Obama addresses the country. More spending, more borrowing and demonizing corporate jet owners won't create jobs or turn the economy around.
