Attendance numbers from the Albuquerque International Balloon
Fiesta show fewer people went to this year’s event in October, compared to
2011.
A report says the event saw 714,297 visitors this year, which is down
from 2011's estimated 737,466 visits.
Officials say the main reason for the
drop in attendance was weather. Poor conditions forced the cancellation of
flying events on the first Saturday morning, Thursday evening, Friday morning
and Friday evening.
This year's event included a total of 536 balloons,
including 99 special shapes, from 19 countries.
The 42nd Albuquerque
International Balloon Fiesta, with the theme "Enchanted Skies," is
scheduled to be held Oct. 5-13, 2013.
