Krugman - We Need Higher Prices or a Trade War

According to New York Times columnist Paul Krugman (left), those dastardly Chinese are selling the rest of the world goods they want to buy, at a price that is just too low. He says this action comes at the rest of the world's "expense." Hmmmm. This complex line of economic thinking might be a little too subtle for most of us working stooges to grasp.  In any event, while Kruggie doesn't come right out and call for price hikes on items we all purchase, he does indicate that the Obama administration should start a trade war with China if it cannot convince the Chinese to raise the value of their currency and therefore their goods. It is an interesting take, especially from an ecnomist who was constantly lamenting budget deficits from 2001 to 2009, before falling curiously silent on fiscal discipline issues since then. Read Krugman's his latest ideas on China here:

Congress Makes a Deal on Wall Street

Sweeping changes in some of the ways Wall Street banks and brokerage firms do business are on the way. Now that the lawyers in Congress have created a new set of rules the lawyers working for the banks will pour over the language and look for ways to operate business as usual under the new rules, either in the U.S. or offshore. Let the Mudslinging Begin

NMPolitics.net has done some basic investigative reporting on the latest attack ad by the Diane Denish campaign. The findings of the investigation should raise the eyebrows of anyone watching the gubernatorial campaign in New Mexico. One has to wonder who is making the decisions in the Denish campaign and why the emphasis of the message is to tear down Susana Martinez rather than build up candidate Denish. California's Version of the Social Safety Net

It would seem that insanity has finally fully engulfed the entire State of California. The Los Angeles Times reports that welfare cards issued by the state, which enable recipients to withdraw taxpayer cash, are being used at ATM machines located in casinos. Read the details of the latest example of the unintended consequences of government attempting to serve the "greater good." With one of the highest personal income tax rates in the nation and a terrible state economy. Finally U.S. - Mexico Cooperate - Both Sue Arizona

Columnist Larry Elder makes some observations on one of the great issues of the day and of our region.....border security. Not long after Mexican President Felipe Calderon bashed Arizona in Washington D.C. lawyers in both the U.S. and Mexican governments have made the decision to take the same course of action. Both federal governments will sue the State of Arizona for deciding to enforce federal laws that are very similar in both countries.
