Is New Energy Economy Group Destroying Our Reliable Energy Sources In New Mexico?

KOB - TV - ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Critics of a rate hike request by New Mexico's largest electricity provider are questioning why the utility hasn't considered closing part of its coal-fired power plant in northwestern New Mexico. The environmental group New Energy Economy says investing millions of dollars in the San Juan Generating Station near Farmington would be a waste of money given uncertainty surrounding future state and federal environmental regulations. The group says ratepayers shouldn't have to bear the costs. What Public Service Company of New Mexico can recoup is being debated by experts who have spent the last several days testifying before the state Public Regulation Commission.
