Capitol Report New Mexico - With John Sanchez entering the race for the Republican nomination for the soon-to-be vacant US Senate seat occupied by Jeff Bingaman, we waited for the respective reactions from New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez as well as Heather Wilson, who will be Sanchez’ chief rival in the GOP race. We’ll start with Wilson, who has a reputation for being a tough campaigner. Here’s the statement Wilson released Tuesday afternoon (May 24), just a few hours after Sanchez made his official announcement: “We welcome Lt. Governor Sanchez into the race and look forward to contrasting Heather Wilson’s conservative record with his invented one. On issue after issue John Sanchez is not who he says he is, and Republican voters will be quick to figure that out.” I think that counts as a shot across the bow.
