In the original film "The Stepford Wives," a malfunctioning wife turned robot (due to sinister surgical alterations), said repeatedly to soon to be altered Kathryn Ross, "I thought we were friends.....I thought we were friends." President Obama, who gets a national security briefing every day, is taking heat from a group he thought was his friend, the American Civil Liberties Union. We have a cousin in our family who often quips, "This is no time to quit drinking." Paul Krugman, economist, partisan, New York Times columnist, and author of the book "Conscience of a Liberal" questions the wisdom of fiscal discipline in his column. Like so many partisans in both parties, Krugman has switched from dove to hawk and then back to dove again on the national debt. It comes as no surprise that with his party is in power, his deep analysis lands him in the, "This is no time to stop borrowing," camp again. He attempts to explain/rationalize why here:
