“The worst cause for which a people ever fought.”

© 2020 Jim Spence -  It is amazing how far the American South’s plantation owners were willing to go back in the 1850's to try to solidify their legal ownership of other human beings. When the South surrendered to the Union at Appomattox, General Ulysses Grant said of Robert E. Lee that he (Lee) had fought brilliantly for a cause that was, “The worst cause for which a people ever fought.”
The justifications human beings use to assert the validity of their property rights over other human beings is hard to fathom. The list of rationales is almost endless. When slaves attempted to escape plantations, it created tremendous inconveniences and disruptions to the plantation owner’s bottom line and day-to-day lifestyle. Most escape attempts by slaves failed. And when slaves were captured and returned, they were whipped, chained, sometimes mutilated, and occasionally killed. Particularly on large plantations, with large numbers of slaves, sometimes the captured slave who unsuccessfully tried to escape, was used as the “ultimate example,” in an effort to drive home the point to others considering making a run for their freedom. In these instances, runaway slaves were killed in front of all the other slaves for effect.
We have written hundreds of words regarding late term-abortions here on this site and drawn the parallels between killing viable babies and the horrors of slavery. Particularly disturbing to the discussion is the mindset involved in claiming ownership of other human beings......expressly for the right to dispose of them after they are born alive. This perverse MINDSET was on full display out in front of the Supreme Court yesterday as the justices considered a 2014 Louisiana law that requires doctors performing abortions, to hold admitting privileges at a hospital no more than 30 miles away.
Let's skip the debate of the merits of this particularly routine regulation, and get to what Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said to a group of abortion rights activists on the front steps of the court building as the justices listened to arguments from both sides inside.
Schumer told the crowd, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
Won't know what hit you for rendering an opinion? These justices have constitutional duties to render opinions. Chief Justice John Roberts, who in 2018 spoke out against President Trump’s stinging criticism of federal judges, when Trump called them, Obama judges," was stunned by Schumer’s naked threats. The phrase, "You Won't Know What Hit You," is an overt call for a surprise attack. Schumer was suggesting the solution to a disagreement on a Supreme Court opinion was violence.
Chief Justice Roberts released a statement later in the day on the Schumer threats of violence: “Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous. All Members of the Court will continue to do their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter.”
The murderous bully pattern here is obvious. Last week Schumer argued adamantly that infanticide was a "property right" of all pregnant women, even if their babies were born alive. This week Schumer warned Supreme Court justices that they wouldn't know what hit them if they voted in favor of routine regulations on abortionists.
It is less than noteworthy that Schumer has now decided he regrets what he said yesterday. Too late Chuck. What happens if judges don't vote the way Schumer wants them to and one or both are physically harmed?
Making of threats against Supreme Court Justices is felonious criminal activity. It is unthinkable that the highest ranking Democrat in the U.S. Senate would do this. Only a violent person with the radical mindset similar to that of an indignant slave owner, would appear on national television, outside the Supreme Court, and say what Schumer said.
Schumer should be arrested, handcuffed, charged with aggravated obstruction of justice, and jailed without bail. In the wake of the shooting of Representative Steve Scalise, by a violent Bernie Sanders zombie, Schumer should face lengthy jail time. Schumer is quite simply, a dangerous thug. And like Robert E. Lee, Schumer is fighting for the worst cause for which a people ever fought.
