Scorched Earth Strategy - More Hysteria

© 2020 Jim Spence -  The media narratives since Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 have been to go from one hysteria to another. We have highlighted the scorched-earth strategies of the progressive Democrats and their colleagues that dominate the news media. Essentially, they are now resorting to burning everything.

Let’s try to put the latest “pandemic” into historical context.

  • In 2003, there was mild hysteria over SARS, which also originated in China. SARS killed a total of 774 people in 29 countries.
  • In 2009, the World Health Organization, which should be renamed the World Hysteria Organization, raised the worldwide pandemic alert level of the swine flu. According to the CDC in the U.S. the swine flu infected approximately 61 million Americans, of whom 12,269 died.
  • In 2010-2011, the next flu season, 37,000 Americans died of the flu.
  • In 2012-2013, 43,000 died of the flu.
  • In the U.S. during the 2017-2018 flu season, the CDC reports that about 61,000 people died of the flu.

Having spoken to several physicians in the day-to-day healthcare trenches and having read comments by many higher-profile doctors, there are very strong indications that the coronavirus has been making the rounds all over the globe for many months now. However, as is always the case with a “new virus,” very little specific testing for this strain was done until people started to die. Deaths whether by flu or other maladies always triggers testing. So……after the virus had already been out and about for a few months, the strain was isolated and named.
Here are the facts: The current estimates for the fatality rates on the coronavirus are quite incomplete simply because the real data on the TOTAL number of cases is still very limited. In short, while we have pretty good data on deaths, we have almost nothing on a case count.
It is important to follow the absurd mathematical sequence being foisted upon the public by the news media regarding the fatality rate of this virus:
1) Because it is a virtual certainty that the number of total cases is by nature, UNDER-REPORTED, an accurate fatality rate is unknown.
2) An accurate fatality rate calculation requires both an accurate numerator (deaths), and denominator (total cases).
3) Under-reported case counts are not intentional.
4) However, the media, with a well-defined political agenda, is using bogus math as scare propaganda.
5) The case data being applied only reflects ACTUAL verified cases. There are no WHO and CDC “case estimates” at this stage.
6) It is simply still far too early for these organizations to make unverified “estimates” on the CRITICAL number that is the denominator in the fatality rate. People all over the world who got the virus, were sick for a few days, and got over it, never sought tests. So, these instances, unlike severe illnesses and deaths never made it into the database.
7) The conclusion here is inescapable. Any attempts to estimate the coronavirus fatality rate are premature.

If we used the same mathematics for the flu, the fatality rate would be an absurd number (10%).
According to CDC numbers, in the US in the 2019-2020 flu season, there were 222,000 confirmed cases of the flu from testing and there were 22,000 confirmed deaths from the flu. But CDC estimates suggest that 236 million people had the flu. This estimate is not based on verified test results. It is based on educated guesses. There are no educated guesses on coronavirus yet because there is not enough data.
There is another recurring lesson to be learned here. Never underestimate the power of an unscrupulous media. Being able to trigger global panic to bring global economies to a screeching halt is simply more scorched earth tactics.
The media’s Russia collusion hoax failed. Then the Ukranian impeachment accusations fell flat. Now the cornonavirus scare seems to be succeeding in the warped world of partisan politics.
The blame game has begun and guess who is the sole target. Progressive Democrats are desperately hoping that Americans will blame Trump for a virus that seems far less lethal than the flu, and vote Democrat in November.
Will this strategy work? Stay tuned.
