Supreme Court rules out life terms for some juveniles
An interesting issue is covered by the Associated Press story in the Washington Times.
The Supreme Court took two cracks at one of the law's thorniest questions Monday: When can you lock up a prisoner and throw away the key?
Not when it's a teenager who hasn't killed anyone, the justices said. But when it's a "sexually dangerous" inmate, maybe so, even if he has completed his federal prison sentence.
By a 5-4 vote, the court said young people serving life prison terms must have "a meaningful opportunity to obtain release" if they haven't killed their victims. The majority opinion by Justice Anthony M. Kennedy extended the "children are different" rationale that drove his decision five years ago that outlawed the death penalty for killers younger than 18. A word to the people with garage doors
You gotta see this to believe it. Technology is so wonderful; how to break into a home in less than 6 seconds with audio/visual aids!!
Please look at your garage door - After our home inspection the inspector noted that our garage door had a dent in it. Rhys and I were in the garage last night talking about it and trying to figure out how it got a dent in it. Finally figured out someone tried to break in. Then I searched youtube and found the below video. Please watch it. I took the pull string off of ours and zip tied the lever up to the slider. Now you have to cut the zip tie in order to release the lever.

Dr. Michael Swickard was born at Holloman AFB in 1950. His grandmother came to New Mexico from upstate New York in 1908 to teach in rural schools of New Mexico. His grandfather, Horace Swickard came to New Mexico with the Montana National Guard and was part of the troops who pursued Pancho Villa in 1916. Michael’s father was in the Air Force and he lived in many places including Japan, Florida, California and Colorado but returned to Alamogordo where Michael graduated in 1968. Michael earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration with a specialty in Distance Learning from New Mexico State University in 1998.
Swickard has extensive radio experience having hosted the award-winning Morning Show with Michael Swickard on KSNM for five years and was awarded Talk Show Of The Year by the New Mexico Broadcaster’s Association in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Michael professionally works in association with McComas and Associates, a company specializing in educational consulting on literacy and numeracy issues in public schools.
Jim Spence was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1956. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor's Degree at New Mexico State University in 1980. He founded the investment firm Spence Asset Management Inc. in 1992. Jim taught investment classes at NMSU in the spring of 2015. He was married to his wife Kristi in 1978. The Spences have two children, Renee and David.
