From ABC news.com - photo by Rueters - A shocking new report obtained by ABC News says that as many as three out of four guns used in crimes in Mexico can be traced to gun stores just across the border in the U.S. The numbers bolster complaints by Mexican officials that the country's unprecedented bloodshed – 28,000 people have died in drug-cartel violence since 2006 – is being fueled both by the U.S. appetite for drugs, and by American weapons. The study, based on Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) data and prepared by the advocacy group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, shows that three out of four guns used in crimes in Mexico and submitted for tracing were sold in the four U.S. states that border Mexico. According to the report, from 2006 through 2009, 19,000 guns used in crimes in Mexico were traced to an original sale at a US gun dealer, and the bulk of the guns came from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Why link to this garbage? Yes, the guns the Mexicans sent up were found to have been bought in the US BECAUSE they ONLY sent up the ones that might have been bought in the US. They did not send up the Romanian AK-47s and other automatic weapons. If I recall correctly the Mexicans only sent up about 17% of all the seized weapons.
Only an idiot would think the drug lords would pay $500-$1000 for a semiautomatic AK47 when they can buy fullauto AK47 any where in the world for about $15.00.
This story is a rehash of old bull that those who fear guns continue to push. For the idiots who believe this stuff, go ahead and disarm yourself. The supreme court ruled years ago that the police DO NOT HAVE to protect you. Their job is to protect society. If YOU need protection, you will have to get it yourself. The main job of the police is to clean up AFTER the fact.
