by Michael Swickard, Ph.D. - We are the Spender Generation and there is no amount of money we cannot spend. All that constrains us is how much we can borrow. So when future generations look back, I am sure that there are a few things those generations from now will know. They will know that we, The Spender Generation, were the most selfish and self-centered generation in all of history. Perhaps they will refer to us as the Spender Generation, or something worse. How we will get that moniker is that our generation has spent all of the money we ourselves had and then spent much of the money from the future generations. What did we spend it on? We spent it on ourselves. They will know that we did this. Read Column

Sorry, sir, but the next generation is dumber than dumb about monetary expenditures. They know nothing about managing money and planning for the future. And they all expect to be given EVERYTHING their petty hearts desire.
Do not expect them to fix what our generation broke. Apparently our generation has/had no concept money management, right and wrong, or honor.
Those of us who did not participate in this fiasco will be punished along with the ejits who caused it.
Ignorance has been our nemesis and most of the ignorance came through those who taught us. But the ultimate blame will always rest on us because we should have learned better. The Book was there and has been for 2000 years.
The good book also says, "God helps those who help themselves...". Maybe that's exactly what the baby boom generation has been doing. The baby boom generation holds the votes, the numbers and the purse strings to all the entitlements doled out to baby boomers. Only one in four (25%) of ALL baby boomers have saved enough money to retire on by age 65 (William Buckley WSJ Oct 07, 2008 & countless other publications). So, which generation knows more about money management and saving for the future? How do the younger generations save for the future when they're legislatively obligated to pay for your UNFUNDED retirement, Sir? The younger generations weren't able to vote and protect themselves when YOUR generation (excuse the expression) urinated away THEIR FUTURE? The younger generations are TOTALLY out numbered. The author of the previous comments seems to be attempting to blame shift, to the younger generations, for all the problems the baby boomers created or were too politically coward to fix. This seems to be the mantra of the baby boom generation, THAT IS, to blame someone else for all that which ails the world. Here's the good news; things WILL steadily improve once the baby boomers FINALLY start disappearing from the face of the earth. You want to talk about a generation of dummies? Look no further than the baby boom generation. The only concept, as a group, they embrace is one of self indulgence and burdening all the younger generations with their entitlement "dig me", agenda. The good book isn't exactly one of their favorites. What happened to, "...do unto others..."? Respectfully, please do your homework before you open your mouth.
