Albuquerque bucks trend, sheds jobs

KRQEMost major U.S. cities are adding jobs, but not Albuquerque according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The report compared nonfarm employment in 100 cities between March 2011 and March this year. Albuquerque was among 13 cities that lost jobs. Nationally there were 1.2-million jobs added in the country's top 100 cities, but in the Duke City, 700 jobs were lost. Local economist, Dr. Lee Reynis said the biggest losers were construction and government. Reynis says New Mexico is heavily dependent on government jobs. In fact, one in four jobs in the state is in government, and that sector continues to shrink in reaction to the recession. Read More News New Mexico
