Labor: Hiring up in August, job openings down

New Mexico Business WeeklyU.S. employers advertised fewer jobs in August than July, but filled the most positions in three months — a mixed signal for the job market. The U.S. Labor Department said Oct. 10 that job openings dropped by 32,000 to 3.56 million in August. July’s openings were also revised lower. However, employers hired 4.39 million people in August – the most since May. According to an Associated Press report in the Albuquerque Journal, the number of available jobs has risen about 63 percent since the recession ended three years ago.
