The state Game Commission is to
consider possible changes for antelope hunting but New Mexico 's Game and Fish Department says
it will recommend the current licensing system remain in place.
The
seven-member commission sets policies for the department, which manages hunting
and fishing. The commission meets Thursday in Raton.
The department has held
public hearings to solicit comments on proposals to establish a licensing
system for antelope hunting similar to that for deer hunting.
Among the
proposals is to continue a license drawing for public land hunts but allow
licenses to be sold over-the-counter to hunt on private lands with permission
of the landowner.
