The Aggie men's basketball team played without Troy Gillenwater and Gordo Castillo and lost center Hamidu Rahman midway through the first half but still cruised to an 83-49 victory over visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night in the Pan American Center snapping their seven game losing streak.
The Aggies had four players finish in double figures as they got 19 points from Christian Kabongo, 16 points from Hernst Laroche, a career-high 15 from Bandja Sy and 12 from Tyrone Watson. Hamdidu Rahman scored eight points in eight minutes before re-injuring his calf.
The Aggies shot 55.1 percent for the game including a sizzling 69.2 percent in the second half making 18-of-26 baskets. The Aggies held Pine Bluff to just 32.8 percent shooting for the game. The Aggies out-rebounded the Golden Lions 47-25 and scored 25 points off of 21 Pine Bluff turnovers.
The 49 points was the lowest point total allowed by an Aggie team since the 2007-2008 season when they held Prairie View A&M, another SWAC opponent, to 43 points in an 80-43 victory. With the win the Aggies improve to 3-7 on the season while Arkansas-Pine Bluff falls to 0-9.
The Aggies return to action on Thursday night as they host Oklahoma Panhandle State.
