From NM Politics.net - Commentary by Michael Swickard, Ph.D. - It is time we change the way time is changed twice a year in most of the country. Specifically, it is time to throw out Daylight Savings Time (DST) and throw it out for good. I wonder if we can get someone to sponsor a congressional bill to make this change. Most Americans would get along fine with year-round regular time. While government does not give up power over the people willingly, we can make a case that we should change what government is doing now. The government nannies and minders say they have our best interests in mind with DST. They say that during the summer months there is more time in the evening to recreate with DST, so we should use that time rather than lose it. Still, when DST starts it is mid March, and it is November when the time changes back. There is a lot of time that is not summer. Read column

Michael,
Per usual, your columns are vapid and smug. I can forgive this more in your radio persona, where you have put yourself in the position of having to speak off the top of your head. In your columns, however, I assume you're at least reading over what you've written. Still, no one can deny that you are--for better or worse--prolific.
The only people claiming energy savings from DST are government employees and of course those working for the same people who force this crap on us would NEVER lie.
Economists at universities around the world find just the opposite.
If you want to have more evening time, get your ass out of bed and go to work early. People can alter their work hours and companies can alter their policies. This is legitimate. Congress' interference in the lives of the people is not. There is no grant of power for Congress to control time.
We just need our wimpy, limp-wristed, gutless, NM politicians to say No. But there is no courage in Santa Fe or anywhere else in NM.
